Our Story

We didn't set out to build
another project tool.

Argile Focus is a simple way to plan and complete meaningful work - one clear Focus at a time.

This is the story of why we built it.

The problem we kept running into

We've spent years managing complex work. We've used the tools, sat through the meetings, and watched teams drown in to-do lists that nobody reads.

Somewhere along the way, the Agile Manifesto's beautiful simplicity got buried. What was meant to be about people and collaboration became about dashboards and workflows. What was meant to be about adapting to change became about protecting the sprint plan.

The popular tools - Jira, Linear, Asana - are impressive engineering. But they're built for one thing: moving tickets. Cards go left to right. Statuses get updated. Deadlines get chased.

What none of them ask is: does any of this connect to something that matters?

The moment it clicked

The problem was never the teams. The teams were brilliant.

The problem was that the tools had trained everyone to think in tickets instead of Outcomes. To measure progress by how many things moved to "Done" - not by whether anything actually changed.

"We had 2,000 tickets in the backlog. We closed 400 that quarter. But when someone asked what we'd actually achieved, the room went quiet."

- A conversation that happened too many times

That's when we knew: the answer wasn't a better ticket system. It was a different way of thinking about work entirely.

What guides us

The original Agile Manifesto had it right. But the tools never caught up. So we built one around the ideas that actually matter:

Start with why

When you know why the work matters, every action has direction. Argile Focus helps you define intent before you start.

Keep it small

If it doesn't fit into a morning, it's too big. Smaller work means faster feedback, fewer surprises, and clearer progress.

Connect every piece

Nothing exists in isolation. The chain from action to outcome is always visible, so your team never loses sight of why the work matters.

Trust your people

Estimate in coffee breaks and deep mornings - not abstract numbers. Your team already knows how long real work takes.

Who we are

We're a small group of engineers, designers, and product people who've spent our careers inside the tools we're now trying to improve.

We've been the developers staring at a 300-ticket backlog wondering where to start. We've been the leads trying to explain progress with burndown charts that only tell half the story.

We're not building Argile Focus from a boardroom. We're building it from experience - because we needed it first.

We're based in Australia, working asynchronously, and using Argile Focus to build Argile Focus.

We're not a big company. We're practitioners who got frustrated enough to build something better. If that sounds familiar, we'd love to hear from you.

Work doesn't need to be complex to be meaningful. It just needs to be clear enough to start - and small enough to finish.
